An R&D Manager in pet food leads product innovation and improvement, overseeing the entire development cycle from conceptualization to commercialization for wet food, dry food, and treats. They ensure products meet nutritional, regulatory, and quality standards, while leading teams to optimize formulation costs and drive technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
• Product Development: Lead new product R&D, including formulation, testing, sensory evaluation, and factory scale-up.
• Innovation & Strategy: Identify market trends, consumer insights, and new opportunities for product innovation and renovation.
• Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and guide R&D technicians and scientists to ensure projects are completed within timelines and budgets.
• Technical Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety standards (GMP, HACCP, ISO22000), ingredient regulations, and nutritional guidelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Marketing, QA/QC, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure feasibility and smooth product launches.
• Cost Management: Optimize raw materials and manufacturing processes to maintain quality while maximizing cost efficiency.

Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science, Animal Nutrition, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5-10 years of direct experience in pet food or human food product development.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in food formulation, ingredient functionality, and regulatory standards (e.g., AAFCO, local regulations).
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage projects, and communicate effectively across departments.
Common Qualifications & Requirements
• Knowledge of Pet Food Regulations (e.g., AAFCO, FDA).
• Strong technical understanding of pet food processing technology (extrusion, sterilization).
